Sugar minott - herbman hustling (1984)

At first I am very proud to contribute to the bad bad digitalmidigital blog, dedicated to the digital reggae foundations. When we talk about digital reggae, we generally set its debut to 1986 and the sleng teng of Jammy and Wayne Smith (http://digitalmidigital.blogspot.com/2009/03/wayne-smith-sleng-teng-1986.html), but it is partially wrong. Indeed the Sleng Teng is the song that revolutionized reggae music and sound systems, everything after that was different, digital. But we can find in 1984 charts, some songs that are already digital (http://www.xs4all.nl/~tapirs/1984a.htm). For instance Horace Ferguson and its sensi addict were on top of the charts for months.

And we come to the LP of the day. One of these early early digital tunes is Sugar Minott - herbman hustling. The LP is 90% analog rub-a-dub, but only for this early early digital tune, I think it is important to make it part of early digital foundations, among all the other LPs of the blog.

It is also important to give a big big up to Sugar Minott, maybe the only singer that started with Clement “Studio One” Dodd, and has continued successfully his career through roots, rubadub, digital eras until today with his own label; Youth Promotion, his own sound system. If you can go to one of his concerts, go it straight!
