"Yami aka Yammi aka Yamie Bolo:
Yami Bolo (Rolando Emphraim McLean) is pure product of sound systems, despite of that he has always kept conscious and love lyrics. They are many things to tell about his biography. I am not going to copy/past. If you want to have an exhaustive biography, go to his website:http://www.yamibolo.com/ . It is a very good promotional website, it is regularly updated and contains many informations about him and his recent productions.
To talk about why you are here, in 80's he has worked with some of the best producers: W.Riley (Techniques), S.Minott (Youth Promotion), Augustus Pablo (Rockers International).
Like Tenor Saw, Garnett Silk, Michael Palmer, Junior Reid and many others, he was a member of the Youth Promotion sound system of Sugar Minott ( http://www.myspace.com/youthpromotion ). Amongs his first tunes, we can notice three songs on Techniques label:
- when a man in love (stalag riddim http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOZA6vz4Jyg )
- jah made them all (things and time)
- bad boy posse (rebel teng http://digitalmidigital.blogspot.com/2009/04/va-rebel-teng-1986.html )
To finish with his bio, something very interesting, Yami Bolo is one of the rare singers that have quite never made covers (of course never say never, there are few of them but it is nothing compare to his whole productions)
Today his 4 first LPs

Half of the tracks are songs by Yami Bolo, and hallf are dubs by Augustus Pablo. Credited on this album: Junior Delgado, Horsemouth Wallace, Barnabas, Danny Brownie, Augustus Pablo, Earl Chinna Smith, Steelie for the most well-known musicians.

The song that gives its name to the album is not the same has the one produced by Winston Riley on Techniques because this album has been produced by Augustus Pablo. Yami Bolo has sung again his tune for this album. This is LP is another digital roots reference. Nothing to say, just listen.
credited on this album: earl chinna smith, augustus pablo, barnabas
yami bolo - he who knows it feels it (1991)

Maybe the least known album of the early carrier of Yami Bolo, but for me his best. Any digital crackhead will be addict at the first listen. Indeed it is full of heavy heavy bass lines. It has been produced by Niney on his well known label Observer. Observer is well known for his roots productions for Dennis Brown for instance. But this label is not really known for its digital productions, and this album is a good example of what Niney could do with synthesizers. Something interesting is the track "get up and dance", because of the featuring of a rapper. In 1990 it was quite rare.
credited: Flabba Holt, Earl Chinna Smith (again and again), Danny Thompson...
yamie bolo - up life street (1992)

The last but not the least. This album, like the three previous ones, has been recorded at the famous Channel One studio. The label is Leggo. It contains two of the most wanted singles of yami bolo: blood a run and iniquity worker
credited (a long list of famous musicians): augustus pablo, tony asher, scully simpson, johnny dizzy, leroy sibbles, sugar minott...
